My children and I
hands in hand
weightless
in aerie rite of Spring,
the happy breath of us
soaring to song
this daffodil day.
Below the working of earth
weaving wings
and us all along
wearing birds’ nests on our feet.

one I can tuck in
the bosom of my blouse
until
the words impale my skin
with imprint permanent
as a tattoo
and when I look in the mirror
I would know what it says
without puzzle
just as when my eyes take time
